WHO WE ARE

Choice, dignity and a meaningful place in the community.

The Arc of Macomb County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership association made up of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), their families, friends and the professionals who support them.

We provide person-centered advocacy, services and community connections that help people pursue their vocational, social, educational and residential goals. Our work is grounded in a simple belief: every person deserves choice, dignity, respect and a meaningful place in the community.
OUR MISSION

The opportunity to choose where and how people learn, live and work.

The Arc is dedicated to securing for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to choose where and how they learn, live, and work throughout their lifetimes in the community we share.
OUR VISION

A society where every person is valued.

We envision a society where every person with an intellectual or developmental disability is valued, treated with dignity and respect, and able to experience companionship, connection and community.

The Arc of Macomb County will continue working toward excellence in support and advocacy so people with disabilities have the emotional, practical and financial tools to pursue their goals and build lives of their own choosing.
OUR STORY

Built by families. Guided by the same values since 1953.

The Arc of Macomb County was founded in 1953 by parents who shared a concern: their children with disabilities deserved meaningful opportunities, strong support and full inclusion in their own community. That parent-led movement grew county by county, state by state and nationwide.

More than seven decades later, the same values still guide us. We advocate for rights, help people navigate services, support independent living and employment, and connect individuals and families with the resources they need to thrive.
