Advocacy & Policy Actions

At The Arc of Macomb County, we believe that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) deserve stable, guaranteed access to the services and supports that enable them to live, learn, work, and play in our community. Right now, two critical pillars of that support system—Medicaid and special-education rights—are under unprecedented threat. We’ve created dedicated advocacy campaigns to fight back, make our voices heard, and hold policymakers accountable.

  • Hands Off Medicaid
Our Medicaid system is the backbone of long-term care, home-based supports, and vital therapies for thousands of Michigan families. Proposals to cut funding, impose new work requirements, or restrict eligibility will devastate people with IDD and their caregivers. Learn how you can stand up, take action, and demand that legislators #KeepMedicaidWhole:

  • Education Rights Are Disability Rights
Every child with a disability has the legal right to a free, appropriate public education—and too many districts are failing that promise. From under-resourced classrooms to narrowing definitions of “qualified services,” we’re pushing back to ensure that IEPs are honored, supports are funded, and no student is left behind. Find out how you can join our campaign to protect and expand special-education services:

We don’t just talk—we act. Dive into our Media Center for press releases, news coverage, and legislative updates on disability rights, Medicaid advocacy, and more. See the full scope of our work, share our stories with your networks, and help amplify our message:

Every step of the way, your voice matters. Whether you’re calling your legislator, attending a local rally, or sharing our resources on social media, you’re part of the fight to protect critical supports for people with IDD. Together, we can turn outrage at these threats into real, lasting policy change.
